Q: Where are Opnext laser technology solutions being used?
A: Our technology has literally reached every corner of the world. As a company that designs, develops and manufactures high-performance components and subsystems that power the most modern access communications, backbone, metro, information and industrial markets, we light the world. Our solutions can also be found in applications as diverse as home television remote controls, bar code scanners in the check-out line and medical equipment.
Q: What companies are using Opnext solutions?
A: We do business globally, working to create solutions that meet our customer’s unique needs, big or small. From sensor technology, to integrated optical components for the world’s largest telecomm companies, these business relationships are the core of Opnext success. Our customers read like a Who’s Who of each of their industries. We are proud to contribute to their success.
Q: What industry trends has Opnext responded to?
A: Opnext seeks to proactively anticipate industry needs. Recently the demand for higher levels of collaboration in telecommunications, for example, was met with an agreement between several industry-leading communications companies. The group developed a common specification for multi-sourcing, application-agnostic, highest density, pluggable optical modules to optimize real-estate, power, and port density requirements in networking equipment while keeping synergy and compatibility to installed optical module interconnect infrastructure. Though the agreement was announced recently, it had been in development since 2004. We are also working on further initiatives to meet the needs to customers in security systems, datacom, optical storage and medical fields.
Q: What is the connection between Opnext and Hitachi?
A: Opnext was formed out of the Fiber Optic Components business unit of Hitachi in 2000. We continue to receive broad access to Hitachi's large Central Research Laboratories, Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratories, and Production Engineering Research Laboratories in Tokyo, Japan to create innovative solutions for our customers.
