Opnext comprises four business units, divided along the lines of technology and applications. These four units work together to deliver the latest in integrated components and end-to-end solutions.

Our technology and product leadership is a significant advantage to our customers who use our products within theirs. We will continue to develop core competencies in enabling technologies to address current and future needs within each of our key markets.

Optical Devices:

This unit focuses on Red Laser Diodes and Infrared Laser Diodes as well as Infrared LEDs for use in a wide variety of applications and industries including Defense & Security, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Laser Printers/Plain Paper Copiers, displays and the Auto Industry.

Optical Modules:

The Modules unit is the foundation of Opnext, Inc. This division produces laser diode modules, transmitters, receivers, small form pluggable transceivers, and transponders (SerDes transceiver for telecom and datacom networks. The team is specifically focused the on high-speed and high-capacity transport market technologies. The core of this business unit is its strength in the 10G Transceiver market.

Optical Subsystems:

Opnext's subsystems business unit (formerly Stratalight Communications) is to provide spectrally efficient 40 Gbps and higher optical systems and subsystems to network systems vendors that allow plug and play integration into their current 10 Gbps DWDM link designs and network management systems. This business unit offers carrier class optical modules that are performance and cost optimized for Metro through to ULH applications.

Pluggable Modules:

The optical components industry is on an evolving path toward pluggable transceivers for all speeds. We firmly believe that competitiveness in “lower end” products requires strong technology to create high-performance products at low cost and we have made the strategic decision to be at the forefront of this trend, utilizing our 30-year heritage the continued support of Hitachi’s optical technology and our own internal supply of key optical devices.

Products created from this unit include Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers covering OC3, OC12, OC48, Gbit/E and Fiber Channel data rates and supporting data rates from 155 Mbit/s to 2.6 Gbit/s and cover distance from 300 meters to 80 km. Additional products include 10 Gbit/s 1550 nm Serial XENPAK and X2 transceivers. Looking ahead, this team will continue to develop several next-generation 10G transceivers targeting the enterprise, storage network and telecommunications markets.
