Cost Effective Technology for Metro & Access Networks

Opnext offers both fixed wavelength and tunable WDM solutions in various module sizes and form factors to support Metro & Metro Access Networks.  Opnext DWDM SFP’s & DWDM XFP’s enable simple pluggable wavelength specific solutions to quickly install capacity.  Opnext tunable 10G solutions enable maximum flexibility at an economic price point.

Energy Efficient Technology

Opnext is the leader in InP material systems engineering.  Opnext was the first to deploy 1310nm Uncooled DFB technology to enable low power 10GBASE-LR modules for 10km links.  Opnext is now using the same technology basis to enable more energy efficient 40km (ER) links today and 80km (ZR) links soon. Removing the cooling built into the transceiver reduces the module power by up to 50%.

Compact Size for High Density Equipment

Optical module size is limited by the power consumption – Opnext is driving the technology to lower power consumption to reduce module size.  Opnext was the first to demonstrate 10Gbps 40km & longer reaches in SFP+ form factors at 1W power levels.  Opnext DWDM XFP & SFP modules deliver long reach performance into small packages – the next technology to be delivered is tunability!

Metro Area Networks are under extreme pressures in cost, size, energy efficiency and finally in the installed fiber quality.  Opnext is working on 40Gbps modulation schemes & underlying technologies to deliver the 40G throughput at cost effective price points.
